Dwelt — the camera the place decides
Dwelt has no accounts. There is no sign-up, no login, and no value that identifies you. What follows is what the app handles anyway, and the only times anything leaves your device.
1. What the app handles
| Data | Why | Where it lives |
|---|---|---|
| Location (GPS) | To choose the look that suits where you are standing | In memory only. Never stored; gone when the app closes |
| Photographs | Taking, developing, saving | Your iOS photo library. The app keeps no second copy |
| Usage counts | Judging the app's own quality (shots, deletions, days used) | On the device only. Never transmitted |
Dwelt does not collect your name, email, phone number, contacts, or advertising identifier (IDFA). It does not track you and contains no advertising or analytics SDK.
2. What leaves the device
The app has no server of its own. In two cases, coordinates are sent to an outside service — coordinates only, never your photographs or any identifier.
- Weather — Apple WeatherKit, or Open-Meteo when WeatherKit is unavailable.
- Surroundings — Apple Maps (reverse geocoding and nearby search), for the neighbourhood name and whether you are in a city, a residential area, countryside, coast or mountains.
Both may fail and the app still works — it then decides from the hour alone. Photographs never leave the device except when you deliberately share them.
3. Photo library access
Dwelt requests photo library access for one reason: the photographs it takes are saved to your library and the in-app roll only displays them. Because the app keeps no copy of its own, a photograph deleted in the Photos app disappears from Dwelt too. Deleting from Dwelt deletes the asset, recoverable for 30 days in the system's Recently Deleted album.
The app does not read or analyse photographs taken with other apps.
4. Payments
All payments are handled by Apple's App Store. Card numbers and billing details are never passed to the app, which only learns whether a purchase exists.
5. Retention
- Location is never stored.
- Usage counts live on the device and are removed when the app is deleted.
- Photographs live in your library and survive deletion of the app. Remove them in the Photos app.
6. Children
Dwelt is not directed at children under 14 and does not knowingly collect their information.
7. Changes
Changes are posted here with a new effective date; significant ones are also announced in the app.
